From Takaka Going West
Highway 60 Don’t rush off too quickly to the 'end of the road'.
Between Takaka and Collingwood are places to visit or stay and things to do and see, especially for the Arts and Crafts hunters and gatherers.
Rototai
A short scenic loop road from either side of
Takaka takes you past this settlement
hidden between the estuaries of the Motupipi and Waitapu rivers.
Here you can find arts,
crafts and organic
orchards. The estuaries and beaches provide an ideal environment
for an interesting variety of bird-life including the majestic white
heron and spoonbills.

the township of Takaka. On the way, now
just off the main road, is the historical and protected River Inn
- one of the early hostelries of the area but still offering hospitality.
